How It Works | Keep Austin Watered — Austin Plant Styling Process
Full transparency · Austin, TX

Here’s exactly how this works.

No mystery boxes. No surprise plants. No “our team will be in touch.” Will Burke comes to your space personally, takes real measurements, and tells you exactly what he’d do — before anything is ordered or charged.

The process

Four steps. One week. Done.

Most clients go from first conversation to plants in their space within seven days. Here’s exactly what that looks like.

1
Step One · Day 1–3

Will comes to your space.

The first step is a free in-home or on-site consultation. Will visits your Austin, Dripping Springs, or Lakeway home or business — usually within a few days of your first call or message.

He brings a light meter and takes actual readings at every potential plant position. This matters more than people realize — the difference between “bright indirect” and “low light” is measurable, and most plant placement mistakes happen because nobody measured. Will doesn’t guess.

He also notes room dimensions, ceiling heights, AC vent positions and airflow direction, the direction windows face, and seasonal light changes. For Austin homes, he pays particular attention to south-facing windows (too intense for most tropicals in summer) and the proximity of ceiling vents to potential plant positions.

Will says:
“I’ve walked into spaces where someone has been failing at plants for years and fixed it in 20 minutes. The problem is almost always a vent or a window direction — not the person.”

What you get:
“A specific plant list with names, placement positions, and care notes — not a generic ‘here are some options.’ You know exactly what’s coming before anything is ordered.”
2
Step Two · Same day

Will gives you a specific recommendation.

Before Will leaves your space, he tells you exactly what he’d put where and why. Not “a few options to consider” — a specific, thought-through recommendation based on your actual light readings, your layout, your style, and your lifestyle.

He draws on his access to 280+ plant varieties — far beyond what you’ll find at any Austin nursery or big box store — and selects specifically for Austin’s hard water (~400ppm from the Edwards Aquifer), the humidity conditions your AC creates, and the light your specific windows deliver at different times of year.

You approve the plan before anything is ordered. If you want changes — different aesthetic, different scale, different budget — Will adjusts on the spot. Nothing is ordered, charged, or committed until you say yes.

Important: The consultation is completely free with zero obligation. Will will tell you honestly if he thinks you’d be better served by a different plan or no plan at all. He’s not a salesperson.
3
Step Three · Same week

Plants arrive. Will styles everything.

Within the same week — usually 2–4 days after the consultation — Will returns with your plants. He sources them fresh, checks each one for pests (a real issue with commercial-grown plants), and brings everything he needs: plants, containers, soil mix, and any accessories.

Will handles every detail of the installation. He places each plant at the specific position from the consultation, adjusts for the exact light conditions at that spot, and styles the overall scene the way a designer would — thinking about sightlines, scale, and how the space reads from the entry point.

He also repots any plants that need it (big box store pots are rarely ideal), ensures drainage is set up correctly, and walks you through specific care notes for your Austin conditions — particularly watering cadence given your AC environment and hard water situation.

The 30-day guarantee:
Any plant that doesn’t thrive in its first 30 days gets replaced free. No questions, no documentation, no negotiation. That’s the deal on every single plant.
4
Step Four · Every two weeks, forever

Will keeps them thriving.

Every plan includes biweekly care visits from Will. He comes every two weeks (weekly on the Whole Home and Statement plans), checks each plant individually, waters based on the plant’s actual needs — not a schedule — and catches any issues before they become problems.

In Austin, biweekly visits are genuinely important. Our summer AC environment changes watering needs dramatically compared to spring and fall. Hard water mineral buildup requires periodic soil flushing. Pests that are invisible at the last visit can be caught and treated at the next one. Plants that are getting too much light in summer (south windows) need moving in June. Will handles all of it.

You don’t need to do anything. Text Will if you notice something between visits. Otherwise — just enjoy your space.

Questions about the process

Still wondering something?

Is the consultation really free? What’s the catch? +

No catch. The consultation is free with zero obligation. Will comes to your space, does a proper assessment, tells you exactly what he’d recommend — and you decide whether to move forward. Many people use the consultation to learn what’s wrong with their existing plants and then decide on next steps. Will would rather have you make a decision you’re confident in than feel pressured into something.

What if I already have plants? Can Will incorporate them? +

Absolutely. Will assesses every existing plant during the consultation and tells you honestly what’s thriving, what’s struggling, and why. He’ll incorporate any existing plants that are in good health into the overall design. For plants that are struggling, he’ll explain exactly what’s wrong and whether they can be saved — and those become part of his care visits going forward.

How far out is Will booking? +

Will typically books consultations within a few days of inquiry, and plant delivery happens within the same week as the consultation. If you have a specific timeline — a housewarming, an office opening, a photo shoot — let him know when you first reach out and he’ll work around it.

What areas does Will serve? +

Keep Austin Watered serves Austin (all neighborhoods), Dripping Springs, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Westlake Hills, Rollingwood, Steiner Ranch, Barton Creek, Lake Austin, Tarrytown, Circle C Ranch, Marble Falls, Rob Roy, and the broader Texas Hill Country. If you’re not sure whether your area is covered, just text Will at (512) 829-1467.

Can I cancel my plan at any time? +

Yes. Every Keep Austin Watered plan is month-to-month with no contracts and no cancellation fees. Text Will and it’s done. He’d obviously rather figure out what isn’t working and fix it — but if you want to stop, there’s nothing holding you.

Do I need to be home for care visits? +

No. Many clients give Will a spare key, a gate code, or a lockbox code — especially useful for vacation care situations and plant sitting. Some clients prefer to be home for visits. Either works. Will communicates before and after every visit, and sends a quick summary text so you always know what was done and how your plants are doing.

Step 1 starts here

Book the free consult. Will comes to you.

The consultation is free, takes about 30 minutes, and ends with a specific recommendation you can say yes or no to. No pressure, no obligation. Just honest plant advice from someone who knows what they’re doing.
